My source of Banjo Inspiration

It's not everyday one wakes up and wants to play tenor banjo. I first saw this one in a scene from "King of Jazz" starring the Paul Whiteman band. And there was a 50 second segment of Mike Pigitore playing a nice version of Linger Awhile. Seeing him play, I just had to play tenor banjo.

I got the banjo!

Ha ha! I feel like I can move the world.

here she is:

First of all, I've decided to redesign the project. Instead of assembling it from individual components, I'm going to instead disassemble the entire thing and put it back together again.

Check out that sexy resonator!

Very gibsonesque headstock

Also, apart from taking it apart, I will be making changes.

1. Change tuning pegs if possible
2. change to waverly or presto tailpiece
3. change to grover bridge
4. new strings
5. try to find a gibson transfer logo

neck!

Today, I've made the best discovery.

One of my favorite sellers on Ebay: Angryarcher is selling a Tenor Banjo Neck.

Hopefully, If I get this neck, I will finally be able to start dreaming about finishing soon.

For the discretionary purposes, I wont put up the link since I want the neck all for myself. Muahah!!

January 15, 2007

Synopsis: So my job is to assemble a tenor banjo by May 4th 2007. So i'm going to keep this blog as records to show you all my wonderful, slow progress.

So today is a pretty monumental day. I had the chance to bid originally for a 1920s Maple burl pot including tone ring, lug nuts, j hooks and flange but the bidding got out of control and yours truly couldnt afford it much longer.

So instead, I decided to go down the other path and purchase a kit and assemble it from that. Yes I know it's not the same but hear me out. I'm going to mod it and add things. I've chosen a pretty rough manufactured kit type from Grizzly Industrial incorporated.

you can find it here:

http://www.grizzly.com/products/H3124

But at first, you look at it and you see an open back five string. Yes, but I am going to find an older neck, resonator and better tuners and maybe pre war lug nuts as well. But until then,

Banjo Power!
